Since 2007, UnitedHealthcare (UHC) and its employees have donated more than $9.2 million, helping to grant the wishes of 1,250 children. With UHC’s renewed commitment to help bring hope, strength and joy to children with life-threatening medical conditions by pledging $3 million to Make-A-Wish® over the next three years, they remain one of the Make-A-Wish’s largest national sponsors.
In addition to the financial donation, UHC employees across the country are helping to make wishes come true in their communities through workplace giving, volunteerism and other activities such as hosting send-off or post parties for wish kids.
Each year, UHC grants wishes for the Oregon chapter through this meaningful partnership. Recently, local UHC employees went above and beyond to add magic to Grant’s wish send-off. Employees collected items for Grant to take on his cruise wish and then met him at the airport bright-and-early with signs to give him a special bon voyage!
After his wish, Grant posted to his Caring Bridge site and mentioned this memorable morning. He said, “I’m back from my cruise, I had a great time, I got picked up by a limo and when I got to the airport, my wish sponsor UnitedHealthcare employees and my volunteer wish granters were there waiting for me & cheered as I entered the airport and they gave me lots of goodies when I got on the airplane.” He goes on to share the joys of his wish including the list of the fun activities they did on the cruise and all the new foods he tried such as “scallops, lobster tail, cream of pumpkin, cream of asparagus, shrimp cocktail, mahi mahi and MUCH MORE.”
For Grant and his family, their cruise was a chance to escape the realities of his medical condition and enjoy time as a family. Make-A-Wish Oregon is able to make wishes like this come true thanks to support from partners like UnitedHealthcare.
